St. Mark’s Basilica

The St. Mark’s Basilica is the single most famous monument in the entire city of Venice. It was built in the 11th century and remains one of the most impressive basilicas in the entirety of Europe.

The St. Mark’s Basilica is also one of the most recognizable buildings in all of Italy, and it can be considered one of the most important religious buildings in the whole of Europe. For its gold mosaics the building has been known by the nickname Chiesa d’Oro.

St. Mark’s Square

Next to St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Mark’s square is the next most famous building in the whole of Venice. It’s located on the grand canal which is opposite the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

There are many unique and interesting buildings surrounding the square, so if you are interested in historical Italian architecture St. Mark’s Square is definitely one of the best places that you can go to.

Canale Grande

While the city of Venice has literally hundreds of canals that connect the various islands on top of which the city has been built, the largest of these is the Canale Grande.

The Canale Grande is a massive, almost river-like, canal that has some truly impressive sights with dozens of different historical buildings dating all the way back to the 13th century visible on both sides of the canal.

It is truly a marvel of medieval engineering and a sight that surely anyone would find interesting to behold.
